[Reim can smell fox because of his monster, smell that he must have been spending a lot of time at the beach or at his garden the past few days, sweat and sun, salt ocean and green and grave-dirt. he doesn't smell particularly like he's been hanging out with anyone particular for a prolonged period before they got locked in here, though he's been near Phoenix and Jiang Yanli today, as might be expected.
he does also smell of resentful energy right now, though he's not doing anything active with it and it's not so strong it's choking. it's blood and metallic rage and something black and oily with disturbing, rotten undertones.]

So you also think she'd think the same way...

[sighs]
While I don't think we should depend on this, you and I know, and she knows, that we have a chance of being protected by Echidna, too.

Do you know if they have other close ties to consider? The last assignment similar to this, they didn't, but I don't know whether that's changed.

[thinks about it]
Probably Cerberus...?

I don't know Basilisk's other ties too well, I'm afraid.

Then, if we assume they still have limited ties- are they likely to risk the ones they have to minimize general casualties?

[spreads his hands, making a disgusted face]
It's a distasteful game the Warden's come up with, not an imaginative or hard one.

We just pick the one we have the best mutual chance with. That’s it. Since there’s no greater coordination to this game, the only consideration to minimize harm is in which teams you think will hit Phoenix back, so we don’t just guarantee we kill someone.

It's probably the best course of action. I'm not disagreeing with it, but, if only to humor me, could we compile everything we know of the other groups just to be sure?

[he sounds tired. scrolls down the registry on his phone]
Echidna has ties to us and to Cerberus. Cerberus has mutual ties to Kraken. Basilisk has ties to us. One of the Nymphs isn't new, he used to be on Yatagarasu, though it's hard to say if that makes them more or less likely to attack each other. Kraken probably likes Bugbear? And you'd have a better idea of what's going on with Tsuchigumo currently than me. That's about what I know.
1/2
[ reaching for some of the papers and a pen and starting to mark things down and chart out different ties ]
Tsuchigumo is more likely to prioritize avoiding their ties, which means they won't choose us. Aside from that, I'm not sure, but from the smell I would guess probably not Yatagarasu, either... Well, the fact that they won't target us is all that really matters to us currently.
Echidna only has a protection vote, and... well, while a number of them might like to shield the most likely group to sustain attacks, I'm not sure they would feel confident they have enough information to make that determination. If they still attempt it, then they almost certainly won't choose us or Cerberus, but otherwise, as you've said, we'd be their first choice. If they do attempt to protect a likelier target, then perhaps Nymph...? But I think most groups would avoid targeting Nymph for the same reason.
Harlock believes Cerberus will also avoid their close ties, which means they won't choose Kraken or Bugbear. I don't know if there's any other arrangement there to sway their final vote beyond that. Since they're relatively sociable, the fact that we don't know more about them might put us surprisingly high on their list of potential targets.
Since Elliot and Miss Tsuruno are friends, I'd like to say Kraken isn't likely to target us either. But then again, she has quite a number of friends... If there's anyone else who would want to try for a mutual target, it's most likely Miss Tsuruno. But Miss Kugisaki is just the opposite. Well, in either case, I don't think they have any reason to think we might mutually target them.
Yatagarasu...
[ stops writing, drumming the other end of the pen on the table in silence for a bit ]

It's no use. Yatagarasu's decision will almost certainly rest primarily on Mister Soot's judgment, but the setup is too straightforward. I can't picture what he'd do in this situation in the slightest.

Bugbear... probably won't target us, Cerberus, or Kraken. Well, I suppose we might be on the table now. Vicious isn't likely to gamble on a mutual attack, but I don't know if he'll put forth his opinions at all. I wonder if he has any regrets...
I've spoken with Miss Han, but not enough to get a sense of how she'd approach something like this, nor Sphinx's ties...
[ increasingly just mumbling to himself ]

Once we've made a decision, how do you feel about Phoenix being unconscious when the timer runs down?
no subject
[ taps the pen a couple more times ]
... Yatagarasu won't target Tsuchigumo. Whether they aim for a mutual attack or not, that should still be the case. And, questionable as he may be in certain areas, I don't believe Mister Soot is cutthroat enough to push to target Nymph with Mister Nikkou there. Two groups they're inclined to avoid should mean they're unlikely to leave it up to chance.
There is some possibility of being targeted by Cerberus, Nymph, Sphinx, or Yatagarasu, but Basilisk is by far the most likely to target us.

[glances at Reim's notes]
That makes the decision easy enough, then, doesn't it?
no subject
... I'm sorry. Even though I wrote all this out, it's like I said to you before; in the end, my thinking is a little too narrow. If we're wrong, I don't really know how I'm going to face her... but if no one else has objections, I'll go along with targeting Basilisk. Because if she's depending on us to defend ourselves from her, then it would be even worse for her if we fail to meet her expectations.
